Benja Lee Bell Crutchfield

Benja Lee ("Bennie") Crutchfield died peacefully on May 31, 2015, at the age of 98.
She had lived at Epworth Villa, Oklahoma City, OK, for nine years.

She was born August 6, 1916, in Dallas, TX, to parents Charles Wesley Bell and Pearl
Campbell Bell. She earned a degree in English and Greek from SMU in 1937. After her
marriage to Finis A. Crutchfield, Jr., in 1941, they served together in United Methodist
congregations in Oklahoma (Oklahoma City, Goodwell, Elk City, Muskogee, Norman

Benja Lee ("Bennie") Crutchfield died peacefully on May 31, 2015, at the age of 98.
She had lived at Epworth Villa, Oklahoma City, OK, for nine years.

She was born August 6, 1916, in Dallas, TX, to parents Charles Wesley Bell and Pearl
Campbell Bell. She earned a degree in English and Greek from SMU in 1937. After her
marriage to Finis A. Crutchfield, Jr., in 1941, they served together in United Methodist
congregations in Oklahoma (Oklahoma City, Goodwell, Elk City, Muskogee, Norman
and Tulsa). As a bishop's spouse, she was active in the annual conferences of
Louisiana (1972-1976) and Houston, Texas (1976-1984). She visited many
international mission sites and presented numerous programs about the mission work of
the church. Her gift for hospitality was an extension of her grace-filled love of others.

She was preceded in death by her husband Finis and her grandson Scott Crutchfield.
She is survived by her son, Bishop Charles Crutchfield, and his wife, Karen;
granddaughter Melissa Crutchfield; great-grandchildren Adam Crutchfield and Heather
Holland and their parents, Alexandra and Steve Holland. She is also survived by her
sister, Martha Ellen White, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Oklahoma City,
on Saturday, June 6,2015 at 2 pm. Burial will take place at Forest park Cemetery in Houston, Texas, on
Monday, June 8, 2015 at 2 pm. Arrangements are with Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Funeral Home, Oklahoma City.

ln lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts to Wesley Community Center (1410
Lee Street, Houston, TX 77009), where she was an honorary lifetime board member.
