After a valiant fight to overcome a broken femur at age 99, Marie will now rest with her God and loved ones who await her. Marie was born on a ranch in Goodnight, Texas, the last child of Boone Clayton LaFayette McCollum and Martha Exer Coleman McCollum. After a valiant fight to overcome a broken femur at age 99, Marie will now rest with her God and loved ones who await her. Marie was born on a ranch in Goodnight, Texas, the last child of Boone Clayton LaFayette McCollum and Martha Exer Coleman McCollum. She graduated from Lubbock, Texas High School in 1933, where she excelled in academics. On October 5th, 1935, Marie married T.D. Peel and of this union there are two children, Carolyn J. Taylor, OKC, and Terrell Dixon (Dick) Peel of Wichita, Kansas. T.D.'s position as District Manager for Kraft Foods Co. required frequent moves & the Peels went from Lubbock to Abilene, Texas, to Wichita, Kansas, to Kansas City, Missouri and last, to Little Rock, Arkansas. In each city, T.D. and Marie were always active in numerous clubs and civic endeavors and made lifelong friends along the way. In Wichita, Marie worked at Union National Bank from 1952-1959. She took great pleasure playing contract bridge and duplicate bridge in numerous bridge clubs until failing eyesight caused her to relinquish what she loved. In Oklahoma City, she was also in the Compass and Modernette Book Clubs. In September of 1972, Marie and T.D. moved into their dream retirement home they built in Fox Woods Addition in Missouri on Table Rock Lake. Three months later on December 16th, 1972, T.D passed away and the next year, Marie moved to Oklahoma City to be near her daughter and family. Marie was a loving and loyal member of Grace UMC and was very active in the Crusaders Sunday school class, mobile meals and other church missions. She also enjoyed square dancing. Marie enjoyed international traveling to a large part of the world with her good friend, Wanda Wood, from Kansas City, MO. On October 25th, 1986, Marie married Hollis Michael Hawk and they enjoyed 24 years together until his death on 9-3-2010. Marie and Holly moved into Town Village Retirement Center in April 2005, and enjoyed their friends and life there. Marie is pre-deceased by her mother and father, brothers, R.C. and Troy McCollum, sisters, Opal Scott and Ora Rayburn, both husbands, son-in-law Merle G. Taylor, and great-granddaughter, Jaden Avery Taylor. Survivors are daughter, Carolyn J. Taylor, OKC; grandsons Todd P. Taylor and wife Cathey and their daughters Danielle Taylor and Whitney Gingrich of Edmond; Toby L. Taylor and wife Jenny, children Tanner and Skylar of Edmond; Terry L. Taylor and children Sagelee and Logan of Oklahoma City; son, Dick Peel and wife Carol of Wichita, KS; their daughters Kimberly (Steve) Slay, children Courtney and Cooper of Plano, TX, and daughter Kori Ann (Todd) Dorton, children Bryce and Olivia of Waco, TX. Marie is also survived by stepchildren Janice (Hawk) and Ken Vanderslice of Duncan, OK, Phil and Nancy Hawk of Frisco, TX, and Tommy and Sandy Hawk of Plano, TX; seven step grandchildren and eleven step great-grandchildren; also surviving are thirteen nieces and nephews. Marie was a very social and fun loving person, as well as a devoted matriarch, and will be sorely missed after her long and very fruitful life. The family will receive guests at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. A funeral service will be 1 p.m., Friday, March 27, 2015 at Grace United Methodist Church with interment in Rose Hill Burial Park. Memorials may be made to the Memorial Garden Fund at Grace United Methodist Church in memory of Marie Hawk or the donor's favorite charity.
